🤓 This Week in AI
PLUS: The AI Tool That Turns Voice Notes into Structured Notes, First Drafts and Action Plans
Happy Friday!
Voice notes aren’t just for reminders anymore. This week, I’ll share a powerful tool with you that transcribes, summarizes, and organizes your voice notes, turning them into organized summaries, actionable insights or comprehensive drafts for you to build on—all without touching a keyboard.
But first, here’s what you need to know about AI this week (clickable links appear in orange in emails and underlined in the Substack app)::
California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed two new AI bills that give performers more control over the use of their digital likenesses to prevent unauthorized use and exploitation. One law requires approval from an estate to use AI-generated replicas or voices of a deceased people, while the other provides stronger contractual protections for artists over how their digital likenesses and voices are used.
China will require all AI-generated content to be clearly labeled starting in January 2024 to combat misinformation, deepfakes, and copyright violations. This policy challenges tech companies and content creators to maintain transparency and could set a precedent for global tech regulations as AI-generated media becomes more widespread.
Lionsgate has partnered with AI company Runway in a first-of-its-kind deal to develop a generative AI model trained on its vast film and TV library. The model will be used to streamline pre- and post-production workflows, helping Lionsgate’s filmmakers and creative teams augment their work while making content creation more cost-effective.
LinkedIn is now using your personal data and content - including your profile information and posts - to train AI models. The setting is turned on by default, giving "LinkedIn and its affiliates" permission to use your data to train generative AI models that create content.
📌 To opt out (which I recommend) go to:
Settings and Privacy > Data Privacy > Data for Generative AI Improvement (OFF)
Or click here and turn the toggle to OFF.
Hume AI, a startup specializing in emotionally intelligent AI, has introduced a new model designed to improve how AI interacts by understanding and responding to human emotions. The model adjusts its voice, tone, and speaking style in real-time based on users’ emotional cues, delivering responses that feel more thoughtful, genuine and engaging.
Its ability to continuously learn and adapt to individual preferences and needs allows it to provide highly personalized experiences, which could transform sectors like customer service and personal assistants. But the rise of such emotionally adaptive AI also raises ethical questions about its potential use and misuse.
Snapchat's "My Selfie" feature Snapchat's "My Selfie" feature uses AI to create images based on user selfies and, by default, allows these images to be used in ads unless users opt out. This raises privacy concerns as many users are unaware of the setting. Snapchat claims advertisers don’t directly access user data but hasn't clarified how AI-generated ads could use user images without sharing data.
For those of you Midjourney nerds, here is everything you need to know about image parameters (aspect ratio, stylize, seed, etc.) to create your desired images.
TOOL YOU’LL LOVE
What If You Could Draft Emails, Plan Pitches, and Capture Insights… All While Taking a Walk or Driving? 🧠
I often find my best ideas flow during long walks or drives.
But capturing those insights in the moment is a challenge—until now.
So, I created the Voice Note Assistant GPT. It helps you to effortlessly:
✅ Brainstorm ideas and capture lightbulb moments
✅ Draft emails, letters, to-do lists, updates, and social media content
✅ Outline presentations, speeches, and pitches
✅ Reflect on your day and journal your thoughts
The GPT transcribes your voice notes, distills key points, organizes your thoughts, and provides a comprehensive summary. This allows you to quickly turn your ideas into an initial draft of whatever you want to create.
I use it daily while on walks. I just take my phone out, open the ChatGPT mobile app, find the Voice Note Assistant GPT, start a new chat, and start talking.
Whether brainstorming strategies or summarizing thoughts for action items after meetings, the GPT organizes everything. By the time I get to my desk, I have a solid draft ready to edit and send off.
The best part? I can brainstorm anytime, anywhere, without losing a single nugget of inspiration—all while getting my steps in.
This year, my goal was to hit between 12k-15k steps daily. Thanks to this GPT, I’m moving more all while getting work done.
Here’s how you can use it:
1️⃣ Create a free ChatGPT account (if you don’t already have one)
2️⃣ Click on the link to the Voice Note Assistant GPT on your phone—voice input isn’t yet supported on desktop. If you’re trying to find it by searching the GPT Store, make sure the logo and description match the images I've shared below—several GPTs share similar names, so you'll want to ensure you’ve got the right one.
3️⃣ Tap the microphone icon (see image on the left) and start talking. Just let your thoughts flow: ideas, notes, you name it.
4️⃣ Once you’re finished, tap on the blue checkmark and press enter (image on the right).
5️⃣ Add more thoughts in multiple streams. When you're done, let Voice Note Assistant know, and it will begin transcribing and/or summarizing.
🎙️Pro Tip: Keep each voice note to 2-3 minutes (or less) at a time. The GPT will check in after each note, asking if you have more to add. You can keep adding your thoughts step-by-step until you’ve covered everything.
That’s it! The Voice Note Assistant GPT will work its magic, turning your voice notes into actionable insights and organized summaries or even initial drafts.
If you give it a try, share your feedback with me so I can continue to improve it for all of us.
That's all for this week.
I’ll see you next Friday. Thoughts, feedback and questions are welcome and much appreciated. Shoot me a note at avi@joinsavvyavi.com.
Stay curious,
Avi
